Serdar Itil began his love for wood work in Turkiye at the age of seventeen when he began to study to become a Luthier (instrument maker). Upon moving to Australia he studied in the University of Sydney to become a social worker. After accomplishing his Masters in Social Work and he working in his field, he missed working with wood. After some internal soul-searching and further developing his studies in the art of wood work, he discovered the sacred Australian hard wood timbers that lended themselves to a unique tonality unheard of elsewhere in the world. These timbers are used and can be heard in his own Sirdar Instruments.

Serdar is passionate about the Indigenous stories, the sound and the aesthetic grain of Australian native hardwoods. His courses aim to teach people of all ages and backgrounds committed to learning the ancient craft of wood work.

Serdar teaches students how to embark on any wood working project, through his mentorship program.
