Who are we?
Rumi School of the Arts runs its weekend Music program at Auburn Galipolli Mosque
Rumi School of the Arts is an established not-for-profit corporation, bringing together local and international teachers trained in traditional and Islamic arts.
We teach in Schools all over Sydney and run a in-depth weekend music program for adults and school aged children at Auburn Galipolli Mosque.
Dr. Karim Laham and Dr. Ali Hussain, distinguished Islamic scholars, have made significant contributions to understanding the rich historical and spiritual dimensions of traditional arts and guild systems. Their research explores how creative practices in Islamic cultures transcend mere economic activity, revealing a profound connection between creative arts, spiritual growth, and community service.
These scholars illuminate how traditional arts were not simply vocations, but sacred pathways of personal and collective transformation. By examining historical guilds (known as "hirfa" in Arabic), they demonstrate how artists viewed their work as a form of spiritual discipline, a means of personal refinement, and a method of serving both their immediate community and broader societal needs.
Their work underscores the Islamic philosophical perspective that meaningful arts is a form of worship, where skill, dedication, and intentionality become vehicles for spiritual development and social harmony.
Rumi School of the Arts ensures traditional arts and skills are preserved and enriches young lives in our changing world.
We offer FREE trial classes for anyone interested in a creative discipline.
Our In-School Programs, designed for primary and high schools in Sydney, give young people the opportunity to engage in a creative discipline with practicing teachers. This facilitates a more holistic worldview and allows students to participate in a creative community that upholds strong Islamic values.
“To establish a thriving collective of creative Muslims who use traditional arts as a form of spiritual practice, dedicated to building a community that imparts artistic knowledge while upholding Islamic values”
